It was 2011. I wanted
floor sitting in my room and for that I had to lessen the height of my TV
Table; but couldn’t find time and a proper carpenter to full fill this job.
After waiting for a while I communicated this very problem to a dear friend of
mine whom I trusted (I still trust him) a lot. He said:
“Oh no problem brother I
will do it by myself.”
“By yourself?..no I was
thinking if you could send your carpenter to my place, I will get it fixed. I
need someone who is really good and sharp for this job.”
“Oh ok I will do the
honour, the carpenter is coming over on Sunday. I will send him to your place
when he is done at mine.” My friend assured me.
Then the day was Sunday
and by the end of the day there was no carpenter. Yes, though I was receiving
messages from my friend that carpenter will be at my place in so and so minutes
and hours. Didn’t work.
Days passed away showing
me number of weeks and months and then a whole new year. The TV Table was still
there with the same height. I reminded my friend with regular intervals but the
only answer was “OK” with “OH!”.
After few months I
shifted into my new room along with the furniture. I looked at the TV Table and
couldn’t bare the height of it. I was in the middle of shifting process and
that was the time when the dear friend showed up again. I asked him right away,
“When are we going to
fix this TV thing? Where is the carpenter?”
“Oh you forget the
carpenter I will lessen the height of your TV Table by myself.”
“No no I want it to be
done properly. This is not for anyone to experiment or practice their skills.”
I made my point very clear to my friend.
“Oh you don’t know my
skills, you should ask Abbas.”
“Who is Abbas?” I was
shocked.
“Oh my childhood friend,
I told you.”
“Yeah I got it now.” I
took a deep breath and then
“What Abbas got to do
with this?”
“Oh he is very creative
and so am I.” My friend was smiling.
“I don’t want my TV
Table to be spoiled.”
“Oh it won’t.”
“Ok. When are you going
to do the honour?” I finally asked my friend.
“Oh let me buy myself a
toolkit.”
First it was carpenter
and now toolkit. I didn’t know what to say but to make it more clear I asked
him,
“When you will buy this
toolkit?”
“Oh hopefully this
weekend and then we will do your TV Table.”
“Are you really into
woodwork and carpenter stuff? Or you will do it for the first time………?”
“Oh you don’t know how
creative I am, you will see that I will also make another thing out of
nothing.”
“That is not nothing
that is a TV Table.”
“Oh one and the same
thing.”
I waited for more than
one week but my friend showed up without the toolkit and his so called skills.
1 more year passed away and my friend is still without the toolkit; about the
skills, I really don’t know. One day when he showed up I asked him about the TV
Table.
“Oh man the TV Table is
fine, why you want to lessen the height?”
“Its not fine and I want
to have a comfortable vision.” I replied.
“Oh man ok just wait.”
The next time when I
asked him….
“Oh man I’m not getting
the time but be patient I will do it.”
So more time passed away
and the task was still hanging there. TV Table was still there with the painful
height.
One day I woke up late and
found someone was roaming around in the house under the supervision of my
mother. When my mother saw me she asked me to show him the areas that needs a
fix. Him was an Electrician.
Well, I got fix all the
lights, switches, wires, lamps etc with him. When the electrician was about to
leave he asked me,
“Sir geee is there
anything else?”
I was about to say NO
but something stopped me.
“Do you know any
carpenter? A good one?” I never had that intention to ask the electrician that
question. I felt that someone else is controlling me.
“Yes Sir!”
“Can you bring him right
now?”
“Yes Sir!”
“BRING HIM”. I almost
shouted.
The electrician brought
the carpenter from my neighbourhood where he was working in a house under
construction (I guess he knew him already or……). The carpenter came and asked
what to do. I briefed him what to do and he took the TV Table to my terrace.
THA THA ZIG ZAG……….FINAL
PASTING AND DONE.
Less that 5 minutes.
“700.”
“300.”
“500.”
“Done!”
Yes, the bargaining
session went like that.
The carpenter placed my
TV Table back in my room and cleaned all the mess. It was all done. I was
satisfied.
Two days later my friend
showed up. He did not notice the height of the TV Table until I turned on the
TV.
“Oh you got it fixed.
Congrats!”
“Shut up. I gave him
that call with a smile.”
“Oh man nice.” With a
(Sarcastic) smile.
“Yeah its very nice!”
(Sarcasm).
“Oh man don’t you learn
the lesson?”
“What Lesson?”
“Oh man…The lesson is:
Do your work by yourself!………HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!”
The TV Table experience
took more than two years!
